New administrative fees covering the process for long-term residence permit applications

Since May 26th 2022, the Federal Immigration office applies new administrative fees to be paid to cover the administration costs of processing long stay residence requests. This is the result of the Royal Decree of 9 February 2022 that entered into force on May 26th of this year. The fee has been through some controversy over the past few years and has now been reduced. Every person over 18 years old, who cannot be exempt from the fee based on a special status, requesting a long-term residence in Belgium is subject to paying a fee to the Federal Immigration Office. The fee must be paid for the long-term residence request to be admissible.  In case the residence request is refused, the fee is not refunded. A different fee is applicable per category and must be paid by the applicant or a third party into the Belgian bank account of the Immigration Office under a specific reference.
